Consumer Reports has published it's list of 25 Simple Ways To Save Money..have you checked it yet? If not, it is worth taking a look at. Here are some of the money-saving tips they list:
Use the cold water wash when doing laundry and save about $60 a year;
Use the stand by or hibernating feature on your computer to save about $75 a year;
Plug electronics into a power strip so that you can turn them all off at once;
Don't overload the dryer. Clothes will take longer to dry, and they'll come out wrinkled. When the weather is warm, line dry.
Install a high-efficiency showerhead. It will reduce hot water use by up to 50 percent.
