whiten your teeth at home with strawberries

Got strawberries? Surprising as it might seem, you can use strawberries as one cheap way to whiten your teeth naturally. Strawberries contain Malic acid which helps whiten teeth. And when you add in a little baking soda, you get a gentle abrasive that helps brush away stains on teeth for an even brighter smile.

All you need to do to naturally whiten your teeth is mix a mashed strawberry with about 1/4 tsp. baking soda. Brush your teeth using this paste (and rinse well) once a week to start seeing your teeth get whiter and brighter.

Note: Brushing once a week with the strawberry-baking soda paste is enough. The acid in the strawberries would probably be harmful on your teeth's enamel if you did it more often.

And while you are mashing strawberries, try making this homemade strawberry facial scrub too!
how to make all natural laundry stain remover

Baking soda is just one of those items you just really should have at home. You can use it for so many other things besides cooking. Like this all natural stain remover for dirty laundry.

A quick paste made with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide can wash away stubborn stains and brighten dingy yellow spots on clothes.

To make this all natural stain remover, simply mix baking soda with some hydrogen peroxide until a paste forms. Then apply the paste directly to the stain on the clothes you are washing. Let the paste sit for about 25-30 minutes, then do your laundry as normal.

Gotta love that little box of baking soda. It can save you money in some pretty big ways.

Use Coffee As a Natural Ant Repellant

Hot summer days seem to make ants more determined than ever to get inside your home. In the past, I have used ant traps and repellents to get rid of ants in my house. This summer I am going to save my money try yet another use for coffee grounds. This is an all natural remedy (yay!) that is said to really work!

{I really hope so, anyway.}

How To Use Coffee To Keep Ants Out Of Your House This Summer!

This cheap idea sounds simple enough. Just put coffee grounds in small paper bags and seal the bags with tape. You can also make your own coffee sachets - just wrap some coffee grounds in pieces of soft cloth. Tie the ends of the cloth together with string or yarn. Place the bags or sachets anywhere you have seen ants in your home.

Every other week or so replace the grounds to keep the scent fresh.

From what I have read, the coffee smell is an ant deterrent itself. Plus, coffee - or the caffeine in the coffee - is said to be toxic to ants should they manage to ingest it.

If giving ants some coffee really does work to get rid of them, I will be more than happy to share mine!
A Quick Inexpensive Trick To Unclog Sinks

Most of us have probably heard about unclogging sink drains without using harsh chemicals by using some baking soda and vinegar. Or the AlkaSeltzer and white vinegar trick. Well, here is yet one more cheap way to try and unclog sinks that you can add to your DIY list.

If you happen to have some denture-cleansing tablets around the house, drop about 4 of them in the drain, then pour in about one cup of white vinegar.

Wait about 15 min. or so, then flush the drain with plenty of hot water.

Coffee grounds are one of those kitchen items that can be used for so many different things - like in a body scrub that helps fight cellulite!

Here is one more way to put coffee grounds to good use, and it's also another way to save you money the next time you decide to treat yourself to a facial at home {because you probably won't have to buy a thing - chances are you already have the two ingredients in your kitchen!}

Mix together about 1/4 cup of fresh coffee grounds with 1 egg white. Gently massage this mixture on your skin. Let it dry. Rinse completely with lukewarm water and pat skin dry.

The coffee grounds are great at exfoliating dead skin cells, plus the antioxidants in the coffee are very good for your skin. The egg white? Well, that will help tighten and firm your face, temporarily.

Have you tried coffee in a d.i.y. beauty treatment at home? If so, were you happy with the results?
Have you ever found yourself in the kitchen ready to bake a special treat for your family only to find that one needed ingredient - that brown sugar sitting in your pantry - is now hard as a rock?  I came across this quick way to save that old brown sugar while browsing through some old magazines of mine - sounds simple enough, so before you toss that rock hard sugar away, try this tip:

Put the sugar in a microwave-safe bowl and place the bowl in your microwave. Put a cup of water next to the bowl. Microwave both on high in 30 second intervals until the sugar is softened.

Apparently it is the steam created by the hot water that does the trick!
One of the best ways to save money is by having companies give you new products for free- 100% free - foryou to try out at home and keep! This has to be one of  the most fun ways to save as well, of course!

Companies love to get feedback from consumers on their newest products, and all they ask in return is for you to share your honest opinions about the product on your social networks, your own blogs and with your real-life friends.

The best way to start getting free stuff to review is by signing up with several different websites. This will increase your chances of being selected when new products are available. Registering is free with most sites, and they will usually notify you via email when they have a product available for review.

Since we are on the topic of getting ready for Christmas 2013 (I know it is June, but hey, there is now 204 days until Christmas, don't you know?) and you may be starting to compile ideas of easy gifts you can make and hand out this year, here is a wonderfully simple yet fun idea to add to your list.

Coffee Body Scrub

What You Will Need:

1/2 cup raw sugar
1/2 cup ground coffee
1 cup olive oil

How To Make The Scrub:

Ground some fresh coffee beans in grinder. Pour into a small bowl, then add the oil and sugar. Next, mix all ingredients together until well blended. Pour the mixture into a pretty glass jar with a lid. Add a pretty ribbon along with a card with typed instructions for use.

How To Use:

Pamper your skin with this aromatic scrub next time you take a shower! The coffee helps smooth cellulite while also scrubbing away dead skin, leaving you with softer firmer skin.

(Now wouldn't this make a cute gift for someone?)

205. Days. Till. Christmas 2013.

Doesn't sound too scary.

Now schools starting summer vacations ...that is cause for panic, right?

Well, true enough about summer. I know I am taking long deep breaths and giving myself pep talks as my kids' last day of school draws near. Yet, I am aware of fleeting thoughts of Christmas already as well. Sure, I quickly shrug off the thoughts, because after all, we have 205 DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS.

Somehow this morning as my youngest son curled up tight against me in bed I started thinking about past Christmases, and how I always stressed about money, gifts, money, parties, gifts, money..,  .

So I scooted my slumbering dream boy over and crawled out of bed to the computer to find out exactly how many days we have left until the Christmas Tree goes up.

Well, to be exact, how many days till the kids race down the stairs expecting to see said Christmas Tree surrounded by lots of presents.

205 Days.

There is time. But that time should start getting used wisely this time around, not just noted and discarded (that is what I told myself, anyway.) So i did a little calculating (I have been known to do this before) and this is what I came up with:

A sort of savings plan. Now mind you, I based this on 180 days instead of 205 days because really, who is going to save all the way up to Christmas Day and forget about the actual shopping? Saving is good, yes, but only if I have enough time to actually get out and spend what I have saved? Yes?

So...

If one were to stash away one quarter a day for the next 180 days, one would have a grand total of $45, Yes, I hear you. What good will $45 do me at Christmas time?? Think about it for a minute. Remember last year...I bet you would find some good use for that $45. A gift card or two even? Teacher gifts? Stocking stuffers perhaps? Maybe wrapping paper, gift tags, and boxes. Just putting a quarter away every day could scratch one gift off your list -- right?

Now, if one were to save say $.75 a day for the next 180 days, well then you would have saved $130 at the end of those 180 days. Not bad, eh? Maybe a bit tougher to remember to put those 3 quarters aside every day, so alternatively you could save $5.25 a week to get the same result.

For those who can save $5/day over the next 180 days...you will have an extra $900 to spend at Christmas time!!

And of course, saving $10/day for 180 days...a cool $1800 to spend on gifts.

Back to easier saving goals (for my sake, don't ya know?)

Saving .50 everyday for the next 180 days will amount to a grand total of $90. Again, not a huge amount of money, but heck, I can find very good uses for it!

Put one dollar away every day, and you will have $180 come Christmas.

So yea, there are 205 days till Christmas. Just imagine the possibilities of a less stressful holiday season if we were to truly start putting those 205 days to good use now.

Start saving money today, no matter how little. It will add up. Just save something everyday. Put the money in a special envelope marked "Holidays." It will make you smile every time you add money to it.

205 Days till Christmas.

How will you use those days?

Here is a cool SOS kitchen tip to help you save your sanity not to mention a little bit of money the next time you burn the rice accidentally let the rice overcook, just a tad....

First, save the rice that has not been burned by scooping it up with a spoon and transferring it to a new clean pot. Next, thinly slice an onion and put several slices on top of the saved rice. Cover the pot and let it sit for about 10 minutes. The onion will absorb the burn smell from the rice.

Finally, take the lid off the pot and remove the sliced onion. Your rice should now be ready to eat and enjoy.

The key here is that hopefully enough rice was able to be saved so that you will not have to make a new batch of rice and instead can save whatever rice you may have left in the box for another day!
